Frankfurt airport-what to expect

My daughter is flying from Amsterdam to Frankfurt, changing planes and flying home to LAX. What happens at Frankfurt- will she go thru passport control?

This is just a repeat of your earlier question that has been answered. This site works better when you keep your questions together in the same place so that the responses can build on each other. She will go through passport control and security in Frankfurt.

From AMS to FRA is like a domestic flight in the US, since both are part of the EU Schengen Area.
So it's like going from San Francisco to LAX.
Once in FRA she will be transfering to a US bound airplane.
The baggage check-in was done already in AMS, so she won't see the baggage again till LAX.
She will need to walk to the terminal area where the gates for intercontinental flights to the US depart. Before entering that terminal area she will have to show her passport to uniformed immigration agents (that is the passport control) and also go through additional security screening (I don't remember in which order).
I usually fly Lufthansa from FRA to SFO on the A380 and those generally depart from Terminal 1 area B (i.e. the gate number will be B-##). I think the LAX flight is in the same area.

I didn't realize that the same person would answer for both locations. Sorry.

fuzz,

If your daughter is booked on code-share flights, she won't have to be concerned about her checked luggage in Frankfurt, as it will be transferred to the next flight. However, if she's flying with one of the budget airlines from AMS to FRA, she'll have to retrieve her checked luggage and then re-check if for the flight to LAX.

I often travel through FRA, and it's a large airport but well laid out. If she has any questions, there are usually airline personnel or others that can direct her to the correct departure gates. As Roberto mentioned, she will have to go through Passport control, where a Police officer will stamp her Passport with the exit date. Hopefully she hasn't been in Europe longer than 90 days, or there could be some "issues". She will also have to go through security for the next flight, and as I recall the security point is after Passport control.

Her flight from Amsterdam may arrive at Terminal 1A, and her flight to Los Angeles may depart from Terminal 1AB. Check the Frankfurt airport maps for a better view of where these terminals are located.
