Frankfurt airport-train station transfer help

Would anyone be willing to fill me in a little on the Frankfurt airport train station? I am landing at 8:50am from Dallas on Lufthansa and will be heading to Colmar, France. I have found two different train options that may work:

Frankfurt main 10:50am, transfer in Basel @2:21pm to colmar at 3:05pm.

OR

Frankfurt Airport Station 11:51am, transfer in Basel @3:21 to Colmar at 4:05pm

Obviously arriving in Colmar earlier is ideal, but I would also have to take airport train to main train station to catch that train. Opinions on which is best option based on arrival time and having to go through customs, etc?? Would you buy the tickets in advance or at the train station? I'm not sure if they are likely to book up or not!

Thanks for the assistance!

That 2nd option is ideal; but buy it when you get there as you know the flight on the way from Dallas could be delayed.

You'll get there quicker and cheaper if you buy a ticket for that 11:51 to get off at Offenburg, change to a train to Strasbourg, then change to a train to Colmar. That will get you there at 15:21 and the walk-up price is 29 EUR less than going all the way to Basel.

Not sure why they have you going to Basel when you could switch in Strasbourg as the previous poster mentioned.
Are you looking for trains on www.deutschebahn.de?

Once you land, it will take you about 45 min. to emerge into the public spaces of the airport. You show your passport, get it stamped, pick up your luggage if you checked it and walk out. They aren't going to make you get in a line and have your bags checked. Customs is basically non-existent here.

If there is a better connection in Frankfurt, this is a quick and easy train ride of 11 min. If your train should land on time, go there and get on the next train.

Have you checked getting a Rail and Fly ticket? There is also a Lufthansa Express bus that goes from the airport to Strasbourg. This might get you there quicker than hanging around the airport.

I'm looking at booking the below train ticket - is the 7 minute connection too short to make (assuming train is on time)?

11:51 AM depart F-Flughafen Fernbf. (ICE 105)
1:27 PM arrive at Offenburg

1:34 PM depart from Offenburg (TER 87434)
2:04 PM arrive Strasbourg

Thanks for your thoughts!
