Frankfurt Airport train station facilities

Hi! I am planning on arriving from the U.S. to Frankfurt Airport in early September with two friends. Our flights are scheduled to arrive at 8:45 a.m. I have found train tickets to Bamberg (our destination) that have a good senior discount, leaving at 11:34 a.m.

I know it will be a gamble to purchase the train tickets ahead of time, in case there are delays. But the discount is so good, we may be willing to take the chance. My question is, are there any restaurants or cafes at the Frankfurt Airport train station where we could have a quick bite to eat or pick up snacks for the train ride?

Thanks!

There are dozens and dozens of places to eat in the Frankfurt airport and train station, which are adjacent. It's a large complex.
Safe travels!

Your journey puts you on an ICE train at 11:34. Then you change trains in Würzburg (39-min. layover there) to the RE 54 train.

You could instead board the regional train sequence at 11:09 and arrive in Bamberg at 14:32, the same arrival time, on the same RE 54 train. There is one change of train in Hanau. The fare for this journey is €51/ 2 persons on the QdL day pass. You can buy this ticket right at the Frankfurt airport Regionalbahnhof station if you like, or via the DB app.

With this second option, you do NOT have an obligation to make that 11:09 train, so there is zero chance you will have to forfeit the ticket. You can use the ticket at the 11:09 hour or at ANY other hour of the day you wish. That's how it works with regional train journeys.

Thank you, Pat & Russ, for your information. Russ, I wasn't aware of that type of ticket, but it sounds like exactly what we need!

Is there any benefit to purchasing this on the DB app beforehand? or is buying at a ticket station upon arrival sufficient.
(I am also interested in this ticket for our direct train from Frankfurt airport to Boppard - i looked it up on the app and it seems correct but I second guess myself if I'm purchasing the right thing).

It is, but you have to queue up and there is a surcharge of €2.

The standard fare (€51) is what you pay at a ticket machine at the station. There is no surcharge for that. the €2 surcharge applies to purchase at a ticket counter from a ticket agent.

That ticket will work - as long as you travel after 9 am (weekday rule) and use only the regional trains. You can purchase in advance for convenience if you like - but it's non-refundable and will be valid only for the date you schedule.

You are 2 persons traveling together, right? Another cheaper option exists... Break the ticket into two separate journeys...

1) Ticket from Frankfurt (M) Regionalbahnhof to Mainz Hbf: Local RMV ticket, 2@ €5.80 ea. = €11.60, buy at Airport station from RMV Ticket machine. Use immediately after purchase.

2) Ticket from Mainz Hbf to Boppard Hbf: Rheinland-Pfalz ticket Day pass, €32/2, also from Ticket machine. Also non-refundable, good only for date you choose at time of purchase, but good at any hour that day (after 9 am on weekdays.) Sof if you had some reason to do so, like lunch?. you could take a travel break in Mainz and board any later regional train to Boppard you wish.

Total = €43.60

Many journeys from FRA to Boppard require a change of train in Mainz. But if you choose to board one of the DIRECT regional trains to Mainz, these two different tickets will still work in tandem for the whole trip to Boppard without getting off in Mainz... just stay on the train.

BTW, just because you have two tickets, one from FRA Regbhf to Mainz Hbf and the other from Mainz Hbf to Boppard doesn't mean you have to change trains in Mainz. There are some REs that go all the way from the airport to Boppard. In Mainz, you don't change trains, you just change tickets.
