The SkyLine at the Frankfurt Airport has broken down and needs to be repaired. Airport officials aren't sure how long it will take, but possibly into the summer months. Shuttle buses are being used now to go between the 3 Terminals. The old monorail between Terminals 1 and 2 can also be used right now.

This is a helpful report. At least the Frankfurt airport has contingent alternatives, unlike the Denver airport, where if the train’s not running, two of the three concourses are completely inaccessible, and a majority of would-be passengers are screwed, until proposed walkways get built. Even then, people will be in for a hike.

Thanks for the update, Jo. I'm glad I took the chance to go out to FRA T3 via the SkyLine a month ago.
I also just read that T2 is closed; I hope it is just temporarily.
I can't imagine that they built T3, way around the end of the runways, on the other side of the airport, just to close T2, which was right next to T1.
Cyn, I saw some pictures in the Post, which showed one of the tunnels that they planned to use for the new walkways, and you can see the remnants of the old automated baggage transport system that they tried to use, then abandoned. So maybe the tunnels will become useful, afterall.

As of today (June 9, 2026), airport operator Fraport has halted all passenger operations at Frankfurt Airport’s Terminal 2 as planned. The building and its technical systems are going to be comprehensively renovated and modernized. After more than 30 years of intensive use since its inauguration in 1994, Terminal 2 is in need of a thorough makeover.
...
Work will begin with the preparations for renovating the terminal. A time period of over three years is allotted for drawing up the detailed construction plans. The main construction work is currently scheduled to begin in 2030. The plan is for Terminal 2 to resume operating in the mid-2030s with capacity for more than 10 million passengers annually, providing good growth prospects for the airlines of the Star Alliance and others.
There have been many posts about Frankfurt airport hotel recommendations and I would appreciate some clarification regarding the current situation. Specifically, I often spend the night before travel back to the US at the Moxy in Gateway Gardens. I then walk to Terminal 2, the home of American Airlines until their recent move to Terminal 3.
So, with Terminal 2 too be closed for renovation is it expected that all shuttle busses and the light train link at Terminal 2 will be shut down as well? For me this would negate much of the convenience of Gateway Gardens as a "night before" hotel location.
jkh - We spent the night of May 29th at the Frankfurt Airport Hilton. Our flight was on American the next day. The night before, we made a dry run from the hotel to the right spot outside of Terminal 1 for the bus to Terminal 3. We needed to catch the bus at "Door No. 4" outside of Terminal 1. The dry run made for a much less stressful morning.
I would have loved the Frankfurt Airport Hilton if our room hadn't had a tub/shower combo with a very deep and slippery tub. The lobby bar that looks like a Starbucks had surprisingly good food and very good drinks. I would stay there again, but I would book a room with just a shower.
There's at least one hotel near Terminal 3 - https://hrewards.com/en/intercityhotel-frankfurt-airport-terminal-3
The Frankfurt Airport just announced this morning, that the SkyLine is running again between the terminals.
