Frankfurt Airport info needed

Hi,

I need some advice please. I'm meeting my husband arriving at Frankfurt airport, terminal 2. I would be coming from our hotel which is located near the Frankfurt Central Station. Will I be taking the S8 or S9 train to the airport? I'm wondering which stop should I take? Is there a stop for Terminal 2 arrivals?

Thank you!

The trains from the central station will stop at track 3 at the regional train station. This is located under terminal 1. Just take the escalator upstairs and follow the signs that lead you to the SkyLine. This is the quick monorail that takes you to Terminal 2. All in all, it should only take you about 10 min. from the time you get off your train until you are at one of the 2 arrival gates in Terminal 2.

There is good signage directing you to terminal 2 from the time you get off the train.

Either the S8 or S9 will work. The two eventually go to separate places, (Mainz Hbf or Wiesbaden), but both go to FRA.

There is another option to the SkyLine. You can go by regional bus from in front of Terminal 1 to in front of Terminal 2. The bus takes 5 minutes.

When you come out of the Regionalbhf, which is actually under the building across the street from Terminal 1 but accessible via a passageway under the access road and stairs/escalators up into the terminal building, just inside the wall to the access road, take the first door outside, to the street.

Not every bus outside Terminal 1 will go to Terminal 2, but there are 7 or 8 per hour that will. There are four #61 buses, spaced about every 15 minutes that do. They come at approx. 5, 20, 35, and 50 minutes after the hour, plus or minus 1 minute. The bus might say it's going to "Terminal 2" or it might say it is going to "Südbahnhof". There are two #62 buses, but they come a minute before or after #61. And there are also one or two labeled "AIR", at 15 and sometimes at 45 minutes past the hour.

You can find the schedules on the Bahn website. Use from:" Flughafen Terminal 1, Frankfurt am Main" to: "Flughafen Terminal 2, Frankfurt am Main" and the day and time you intend to be there.

I rode it once, and it was very convenient because the bus was right there when I came out of the terminal. If you've come out from the Frankfurt Hbf to the Regional Bahnhof, your ticket should cover the bus as well.

If you do take the SkyLine back after picking up you husband, and you are using one of the free luggage carts scattered around the terminal, you cannot take it on the little train. You have to leave it outside the boarding area, but there will likely be another one at the other end, left there by someone going the opposite direction.

Ms. Jo - just a few more questions...."will stop at track 3 at the regional train station", is there any signage that will indicate that?, either signage inside the train or in the station itself?

..."just take the escalator upstairs and follow signs that lead you to the Sky Train"...okay, is that just one level up from under Term 1?

Two arrival gates in Term 2? I saw on Frankfurt airport website the airport map indicating about a "Meeting Point" at Term 2, Concourse D. On the map, it seems that it's near the Deutsche Bank. I guess either which gate I will go in, I will eventually see the "Meeting Point". There's a big sign with arrows pointing down. Here's the link.

Thank you so much for the good info, Ms. Jo!

Hi Lee,

Thank you so much for the detailed info. It's great to have another option. Re..."When you come out of the Regionalbhf, which is actually under the building across the street from Terminal 1 but accessible via a passageway under the access road and stairs/escalators up into the terminal building, just inside the wall to the access road, take the first door outside, to the street"....question: is there a sign to look for just before the first door?

All of the trains coming from Frankfurt stop at track 3. (S-8, S-9, and Regional trains) They make the announcement in English. The train is above ground going through the city forest and then goes back underground when it gets to the airport and everyone with suitcases gets off.

Personally, I think it is easier to just follow the signs in the airport going to terminal 2 and gates D and E. Riding the SkyLine is fun too. (I never take the bus cause I don't feel like waiting on it and a SkyLine comes every 2 min. and only takes a min. to go between terminals)
From the train you take one escalator up to the level where the DB counters are, then you will see the escalator going up to the check-in level. The signage is good everywhere inside directing you to Terminal 2.

Terminal 2 is very open and the Meeting Point is directly in front of Arrival Gate E, but you can watch people coming from Gate D too.

The official name of the train is the SkyLine. It goes between the top floor of each terminal. When you come up out of the passage that goes under the access road, you will be at ground level in the main hall. The Skyline platform is at least two floors up from there.

Ok, I'll add these instructions to my notes.

I thank you so much for your time and do appreciate all your help!

I'm not suggesting that you should necessarily take the bus, just that you should recognize that it is an option, that could be faster than the SkyLine.

Print out the bus schedule from the Bahn website and look at it when you come out of the Regionalbahnhof. If there is a short wait for the bus, you could get to Terminal 2 sooner than going all the way up to the top of Terminal 1 and back down to Terminal 2.
