I will be traveling to Frankfurt Airport in about a week looking forward to see my German Cousins. When I get off the plane in Frankfurt airport will I need to take a shuttle to get to the main terminal or will I just follow signs to the exit to the sidewalk where my cousin will be waiting for me.

If the plane gets a field position after landing at Frankfurt Airport all passengers and the crew will be brought to the terminal by bus(es). In the terminal building follow the signs to passport control, baggage claim and finally customs / exit.
Your cousins will be waiting at the exit in the arrival zone to which you will be guided by the signs. The arrival areas (one per concourse) is in the terminal building - one level below the departure area in terminal 1 (T1); and at one central exit at T2.
Just to mention: the airport has also meeting points where people can find each other but for picking up passengers it s more easy to wait at the exit.
As MarkK mentioned there are two terminals. You can be met at either. Make sure your cousins know if you are arriving at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2.
You can google your flight and # now and know what terminal your flight arrives in. Airlines almost always use the same terminal unless there is some kind of problem. Your cousins will know where to meet you then.
Thank You All ... for your detailed responses. I now have a clear vision of what to expect. My close cousin is a traveler who knows the Frankfurt airport well and will be driving to the airport to pick me up. I now understand why I was thinking of a shuttle to the terminal. I am so excited for my travels next Wednesday to Germany!
