fly into Frankfurt and out of Munich

I am planning my trip, for four, in June. I would like to fly into Frankfurt and out of Munich, but looking at one-way flights on the travel sites, the price looks unbelievable! If we fly into and out of one city I can get tickets , for each of us for about eleven hundred dollars. But if I try to do one way into Frankfurt, and then one way back from Munich the price doubles or much more! How does one do this without doubling the price?

thank you both so much! I saw it, but thought that it referred to stopping at multiple cities and my idea is to rent a car in Frankfurt and spend 2 weeks getting to Munich before flying out! Thanks again! I love this travel forum! I learn so much from it!

Multi-cities can be used that way. Also can be used for multi leg flights. We have done as many as four legs spread over a two week period. An inexpensive way to hook up flights.

Thanks for the information! I went to Kayak today, because Rick recommended it in one of his books, and found that Condor Airlines seems to be about half the price of the other major airlines, at least the ones that I have heard of. Anyone flown on Condor and/or have any ideas as to why they would be about half the price of the biggies? It makes me a little skeptical. Obviously I want as cheap as possible BUT do want something reliable and relatively comfortable for such a long flight. I appreciate any and all replies! Thanks in advance!

John, you have tougher routing that I do (... from NYC/EWR area). But if you have a big airline you use, note that when I use the United website, it often displays Lufthansa code shares and Lufthansa non-code share flights in Search results. I also find that the Lufthansa domestic legs sometimes cost virtually nothing when bought on a United ("Star Alliance") ticket. And Lufthansa flights are often offered when United "Award" (miles) flights are unavailable. There was a "Lufthansa Epic Fail" flame on this board this year, but I've always found them to be BETTER than United.

Note that I'm not singing the praises of United. I don't like them any more than I "like" Bank of America. I just want to get the best possible service for the lowest possible price!

FWIW... A train trip from Munich back to FRA airport could be done in the late afternoon before your final overnight stay in Germany - and takes only 3.5 hours. A Super-Sparpreis ticket in 2nd class adds only €51.90 to whatever your round trip fare might be to FRA. If you want first class seats, they're only €14 more. Normal Sparpreis tickets at €59 may be available if the supers are sold out for your date. Worth checking.

Condor Air is part of Thomas Cook Airlines. In Portland (PDX), Condor took over Lufhansna flights to FRA when this trip went from daily to 3 times a week. We flew Condor this year, but lost a day when our plane didn't arrive the day before. Those within 1 hour of PDX got no reimbursement. They put us up in a hotel with meals at the airport, as we live 4 hours away. The flight and inflight meals were fine. They didn't assist us with our onward flight to Athens. Our flights were booked together on Kayak.

If I can get a r/t ticket, SFO to either Frankfurt or Munich non-stop, departing in June for eleven hundred dollars in Economy, I would not hesitate at all to take it, be it with Lufthansa or United, makes no difference since the flight is ca 11 hrs anyway.

Sometimes I do the "open-jaw" option, depends on the variables. Mostly, I fly round trip
