Thanks for posting, Fjord.

The BUGA is a really big deal. I get why Boppard wants to improve the waterfront. Right now it's a "cozy" place in a small town. But the BUGA crowds will be overwhelming it without some widening and other improvements.

Boppard is a go-to base town for the Rhine Valley. The construction may well impact business at the waterfront hotels for quite a while. The good news is that Boppard has plenty of accommodations that are well back from the waterfront and will likely remain unaffected by the construction. Boppard also has some "suburbs", small satellite settlements on the river's edge like Boppard-Bad Salzig and Boppard-Hirzenach, where those looking for a room on the river may be spared the annoyances that come with construction. (Innkeepers in these hyphenated suburbs all offer the VRM Guest Ticket for free rail/bus travel during your stay.)

Downstream, the waterfront towns of Spay, Rhens, and Brey also have accommodations (and SOME accommodations in these towns also offer the Guest Ticket.)

The article also reports the news that the FERRY CROSSING in Boppard is completely down right now. Some tanker took out the landing dock a couple of weeks ago, so getting to the opposite riverbank towns of Filsen or Braubach will involve a detour via Koblenz or St Goar. The K-D CRUISE BOATS dock elsewhere and are not affected by this damage. Note that the K-D schedule shows a small number of cruise boats that connect Boppard directly with Braubach (home of Marksburg Castle.)

Thanks for the info. I’m planning a trip to Germany for Sept./Oct. 2027 that includes a stay in Boppard. I definitely want to stay at a waterfront hotel.

Maybe the work will be complete by then.

This will be a BIG eventtime april until october 2029 (and hope every constructions will be finished until march 2029). I think, Hotels will be sold out early and will be expensive.

I visited the BUGA 2011 in Koblenz (near Boppard). That was a great time. Visitors from „everywhere“, Flowers/ Gardens so beautiful, many very good live music. I loved it.
