Does anyone have a favorite flea market in Munich? That's easy to get to within the city?
I've spent quite a lot of time in Munich without ever seeing a flea market (but then I wasn't looking for one, either). I know they have them in Germany. I was once in a little town in the Illertal of the Oberallgäu, and we saw a sign for a "Flohmarkt" the next day. We went there, and it was pretty much like a flea market over here, except I wouldn't count on people there speaking English.
I also visited a second hand store, which was much like Goodwill is over here. It was run by the Red Cross. That was also in the Oberallgäu.
I've noticed that flea markets tend to be very popular on Saturday mornings. We love them and have found some real treasure to take home with us.
It seems there's a regular flea market "Flohmarkt" every Friday and Saturday from 7 am to 4 pm (4pm = 1600 hours on the 24-hour clock) in Olympia Park with over 450 regular exhibitors; closed on holidays. They tell you the exact location. I found this by searching the German yahoo (de.yahoo) for Flohmarkt in Muenchen. There's probably a bus to Olympia Park. There may be more fleamarkets around the city but I didn't do any further checking. By the way, I think I get better results searching via the German yahoo but of course, most of them are in German. Sometimes you can get an English version.
Here are some links to a few. Note, a Hofflohmarkt is more like a neighborhood garage sale. I have a lot of stuff from the Haidhausen Hofflohmarkt.
