Part of larger trip is some time in southern Germany. We will be meeting some friends for Oktoberfest Sep 20 in Munich. We are planning to spend one more night in Munich Sep 21. We have reservations in Fussen for two nights Sep 24 and 25 and we have reservations in Meersburg on Sep 26 and 27. We head towards Zurich for our final night on the 28th before leaving from ZRH. We are aware of the Romantic Road and that the towns southeast of Munich are interesting. There was the notion of going to the Mosel Valley. We would be departing Munich Sep 22 and looking for a spot for two nights before heading to Fussen. We would like to visit Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the way to Fussen or from Fussen? Any suggestions on filling in this trip would be appreciated.

The first place I would suggest is Oberstdorf in the Illertal of the Oberallgäu. It's near the western end of the German Alps, almost to Bodensee. It's a pretty Alpine valley and connects to the Austrian valley of Kleinwalsertal. But that would require a little backtracking to Füssen. If you could move your Füssen dates forward two days, you could go there first, then on to Oberstdorf on your way to Zürich.
If you can't move Füssen, then consider Starnbergersee, Oberammergau, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and/or Mittenwald before Füssen.
The area south of Munich (Bad Tölz, Kochelsee, Tegernsee) is also very scenic.
