Family Hotel and famous dessert

I remember watching one of the travel episodes, I think it was relating to Germany and possibly the Alsace border area? Part of the episode featured a Family run hotel that had a highly recommended chocolate dessert that was named after the hotel or family. Both the hotel and dessert were recommended. We will be heading to Germany and France next week and would like to find this hotel if possible. Sorry my question is so vague. Really appreciate any help.

I had a little "armchair-travel" fun with your post.

The Alsace is next to the Black Forest, so you are likely talking about a dessert called "Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte." in Rick's dated video below, he can't really handle the pronunciation of this treat, but he and his family dive into with a "Bon Apetit! it at a restaurant in Gutach (Home of the Vogtsbauernhof Open Air museum) with the name "Landgasthof zum Museum" adorning the front facade. (Not sure why he didn't say "Guten" Appetit. He's in Germany, after all.)

Anyway... Check the video at around 22:28:

I read that this restaurant was sold in 2016. The restaurant's website turns up nothing. The old address (Wählerbrücke 4 in Gutach) now appears to house a completely new restaurant called Weber's Esszeit, which also has its own bakery and of course the Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte. It's part of a larger enterprise offering a cuckoo-clock "experience" called Uhrwerk Gutach, where clockmaker Adolf Herr is the man behind the cuckoos. You can get in on his story starting at 5:18 in this video:

Since the Vogtsbauernhof is such a great destination and you should go there anyway, I think you'd be wise to make the tiny walk from there to Uhrwerk Gutach and try the Kirschtorte - and of course write a report :) once you are back.

You cannot compare a torte or cake made fresh at a Konditorei, with a dessert that is mass produced for the Aldi grocery chain. You just can't. Like comparing a frozen Sara Lee to a fresh cream cake in a fine bakery.

You can get Schwarzwalder Kirsch Torte all over Germany at fine bakeries and konditories.
