My husband & I are adding an extra week onto an upcoming September business trip and looking for itinerary & accommodation advise to explore 3-4 days in the Rhine/Mosel area - specifically for the hospitality, scenery & lovely wines. We'll fly into Brussels, renting a car, than staying 1 or 2-nights in Bruge. Than after quick stop in Koln to see cathedral we'll be on our way to either the Rhine, Mosel Valley or a central location between them for 3-4 nights before we're off to Heidelberg for business. We would very much appreciate any recommendations to simplify, see the highlights and make the most of our short time in this beautiful area. I should mention we've travelled all over Europe using Rick Steve's guidebooks and have always been thrilled with his recommendations!
Boppard is a handsome old-world town with lots of good hotel and restaurant choices as well as a good base town for the Rhine and for outings to the Mosel as well. Staying there should simplify the getting around. Unlike some Rhine Towns, Boppard also has a ferry crossing for exploring the east bank of the Rhine as well.

If you are going through the Mosel valley over a weekend, see if there are any wine festivals in a specific town.
Use he event finder at http://www.mosellandtouristik.de/en/wine-cuisine/wine-events/wine-festivals/
Of course, if you choose to do one of these and drink the wine, stay over night and leave the car parked in your lodging parking lot.
Following this thread! We're in Boppard for 5 nights in September and I look forward to seeing the responses you receive.
