Some of our group find ourselves with an unplanned day in Trier. We will have ample time to see Trier and will have already seen Luxembourg City. Others in our group will be using the available wheels. So, where can we go for a day trip near Trier?
Cochem on the Mosel is a lovely little town, about an hour away. Also, Burg Eltz is in that area and RS says that's his favorite castle.
Burg Eltz would be my first choice. Cochem, Bernkastel, Beilstein are all good day trips to visit.
You didn't give the month of the year, as in climate and tourist crowding information. I enjoyed Traben-Trarbach even more than B-K. It's an especially bicycle-friendly destination, but the whole area is, if that interests any of the idled travelers.
Thanks for the suggestions. Our day available will either be June 12th or 13th.
I am very interested in Burg Eltz but I walk with canes or a walker and have been told that Burg Eltz will be too difficult, if we start at the train station. Just for comparison, last year, I did do Edinburgh castle and the Royal Mile but it took me the entire day. So what do you think? I'm certainly game to try things but I don't want to end up in a bad situation.
I thought you were driving. Burg Eltz has a shuttle van that goes from the parking lot to the castle and then back again.
