I've been planning this trip to Germany for several months and just today discovered I need this badge. Or do I?
We're flying into Munich and picking up our rental car at airport. The plan is to stay one night in the city before heading off to Austria. We will not be driving around the city except to go to the hotel and then when we leave.
I checked both my guidebooks and can't seem to find any info. Anyone??

Unless you rent a Trabbi or a combine harverster, your vehicle will have the proper sticker. Non-issue, don't worry about it...
... But you will need to purchase an Austrian vignette sticker at the border.
All cars licensed in Germany have a sticker. Any newer cars (post 2006) that is now a major heavy gas guzzler will have a green sticker, meaning free access anywhere.
