Hi
Isn't there supposed to be a visa-like requirement to get into the country that was to take effect this year? I'm not seeing anything online.

You may just be looking in the wrong places, since it's been well publicized. What you are referring to is most likely the ETIAS visa waiver, which will be required for entry into all EU countries, not just Germany. Implementation has been delayed yet again until later in 2026.

Depending on your citizenship a visa may be required.
Since that is unknown, peoples comments are based on their assumptions of what that might be.

Coming from the US in December 2025. So it looks like we won't need to deal with that issue this year.

If just for tourism, you won't need anything except your passport.
The EES is supposed to be operational by then but that is taken care of on arrival. Nothing to do ahead of time.
