Enten und Gänse

When I was a kid in the US the only place I got a roast duck or goose dinner was from my Böhmisch Grandmother. May I suggest during these times that we cook something we have not tried or put some new effort into. I’m getting pretty good with a roast duck. Knödel und Rotkraut goes pretty good with it too.

Sounds like a great idea! I’ll have to think about what I’d like to try.

Last year for Christmas, I gifted myself a new cookbook called Alpine Cooking (Erickson). I have other favorites for summer, but now with cooler weather, this cookbook will take its place close to hand. I just need to make sure I get enough exercise to burn off the yummy calories!

You all are making me hungry! I do miss a good Bauernente. Looks like a trip to Whole Foods or the Asian supermarket is in order (only places to get fresh duck in TX)!

There is life here too. Taking the easy cooking way out this Sunday Mittagessen and preordered to-go from a local Zoigl Bier Stuben, that under restrictions has only to-go and Straßenverkauf. We ordered 1/4 roast duck with Rotkraut und Knödel each for Sunday take-out. It’s the only thing on the menu other than Brotzeit. I’ll get 2l Zoigl Bier in my Bügelflaschen too. I had goose breast to-go last Sunday from a small local family Gasthaus. I'm patronizing my favorites as I want them to stay in business! Bought a frozen turkey at a larger Germany supermarket yesterday for our small Thanksgiving - 3600 gram/@8 pounds for 14 euros. No pre-injection of saltwater/butter/broth, but with the neck and giblets. Hard/impossible to find the huge turkeys like in the USA (not like we need one with restrictions). I think if you searched enough you could probably find a fresh turkey here. Think I've seen them at the semi-weekly market from time to time. At least we can eat good. Baked a fresh chicken and made a good sauce with the suppengemüse this week too.
