Eltville to Bornheim late night transit

This is an extremely specific question, but I appreciate any input.

As part of my 5 days in Frankfurt, I plan to spend all day Sunday, June 24 in Eltville, touring the town and the monastery Eberbach, hanging out at the wine bar by the river, maybe even a short bike ride. I am very sorely tempted to also get a ticket to the opening concert of this year's Rheingau Music Festival, held in the Eberbach cathedral that very night. The festival runs special shuttle buses for the concert to/from Wiesbaden Hauptbahnhof, from which it's easy to get back to my accommodation in Bornheim. However, I won't get back until between 11:00 pm and midnight, transiting through Frankfurt Hbf, probably changing at Konstablerwache. I expect the train from Wiesbaden to Frankfurt will be full of similarly-aged classical music lovers, but after I switch to the S-Bahn, I'll be on my own.

I'm short, female and middle-aged, well really 2/3-aged, not middle. I'll be traveling alone. However, I speak German and am very comfortable on the trains and S-Bahn. I'm also an ex-New Yorker so fairly street-savvy, but useless at physical self-defense. Should I be concerned for my personal safety wandering around alone through Frankfurt train stations on a summer night? I'm not very concerned right now, but if you think differently, please weigh in with your thoughts.

If you are coming from Wiesbaden on the S-bahn, you do not have to get off the train at the main train station. Stay on the S-bahn and get off at Konstablerwache. Depending on which hotel you are in, you could either take the U-4 to Bornheim or the #12 tram from the Konstablerwache. This area of Frankfurt is very lively and busy with several 4-5* hotels nearby. I go through here all the time without worrying about anything and I am a 62 year old woman.

I lived in Bornheim for 21 years. It is a great residential neighborhood.

That’s very encouraging, thanks Jo. Tickets are selling fast so I think I’ll jump on it as I don’t want to miss an experience like that.

Let me know if you need any more info on Frankfurt.
The fest at the Alte Oper begins 27 June if you are still in town.

I’m flying out that morning to meet the group for my “real” trip. These 5 days alone in Frankfurt are a gift to myself before I join the Calgary Girls Choir on their tour to Wales. I was sad to learn I’ll miss the Alte Oper fest by a few hours, and the Höchster Schlossfest by a few days. But I’m thinking of squeezing in a night at Oper Frankfurt to see the Merry Widow on the Monday. If I can stay up so late two nights in a row! Thanks very much for your reassurance and the S-Bahn tip.

(The Bornheim hotel is Hotel Schmärrnche. I’m looking forward to It.)

Well I do have another question. You said this in another recent thread:

Instead of beer gardens, we have applewine gardens. My favorite is Dauth-Schneider in Sachsenhausen.

Do you have a favorite Äppelwoi garden and/or restaurant in Bornheim?

Thanks!

Yes, there are several that I enjoy. On the upper Berger Strasse there is Apfelwein Stolzer and Zur Sonne. Off of Wittelsbacherallee & Freiligrathstrasse there is Malepartus, and near the lower Berger Strasse there is Zum Schöne Mullerin.

Thank you again! I’ll see how many of those I can get to. It sure helps narrow down the long list on the Bornheim community site.

Hey, forum community, I know this was pretty specific and I didn’t mean to make it a private conversation. Hope this detail is helpful for someone else someday. I’m very thankful for Jo’s insider knowledge and I think 5 days in Frankfurt and surroundings is going to be lots of fun.
