Eibsee Seilbahn to Berchtesgaden via Austria only?

Hi All,

I just check on gmap driving route from Eibsee Seilbahn to my accommodation, Alpenhotel Fischer at Konigstrasse 51, Berchtesgaden. Both driving routes options show that I have to cross Austria. Both routes take time around 2hrs45mnts up to 3hrs15mnts.

Are these the only routes available? it just confuses me why I should cross Austria? Is there no direct route just within Germany? Has anyone ever experience the same route as I'd have?

Cheers

You can travel through Germany. I tried gmap with Garmisch-Partenkirchen as the destination and the route was through Germany and 2.28 hours to Garmisch. From Garmish to the Eibsee Seilbahn is another mile or two. The routes through Austria may be more picturesque, just stay on the normal roads to avoid having to purchase a Vignette for the Austrian Autobahn. The boarders should be no problem between Germany and Austria.

Is there no direct route just within Germany? There's these things called the "Alps" that often prevent you from driving straight between destinations.

If you want to avoid driving in Austria, you could head north towards Munich, then veer east on B472 towards Rosenheim, and link up with A8 in the direction of Salzburg. The scenery is stunning... and you'll have plenty of time to enjoy it, because traffic on A8 usually crawls, especially in the summer.

It is certainly possible to go from Eibsee to Berchtesgaden by train without going through Austria.

As for driving, the Alpenstrasse goes from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Berchtesgaden by road. Except for a short section in Austria between Lenggries and Kreuth, which can be bypassed through Germany, that route is entirely within Germany.

Hi mchpp
yes, sometimes gmap need a bit twist here and there. thanks for letting me know it'd work fine if i input from GP :)

Hi Tom
thanks for verifying that route. I initially saw the grey line route and just drag the gmap pointed route to the grey one. I compare with yours and it's the same :) so overall via B23 , B2 , B472 , A8 & B20. btw thanks for putting a positive perspective of having traffic in scenic routes :D

Hi again Lee
thanks so much for the confirmation :)
