Ebike rental out of Breisach

My husband and i are planning a Viking tour Amsterdam to Basel in August 2024 with a stop in Breisach on the Rhine from 8 am to 6 pm. Has anybody rented an ebike in this town to tour the nearby towns? I know its done because Viking has this as a shore excursion but its very expensive. Prefer to do it on our own but concerned about making it back to the boat in time. Info anyone? Im hoping there is a rental near the boat dock that we could walk to and that there might be a company that could pick us up 20-30 miles away and return us to the boat or will we need to double our miles ridden by turning around and riding back? Thanks.

Thanks. I think thats the info i need. I’ve emailed them but not heard back yet but they are in their slow season so it may be awhile before i hear back from them. Im not sure if i can find out how far our Viking port is from their store but it cant be that far i dont think. I can surely get to their store somehow.

I’m surprised they apparently expect you to go pretty slow considering its an ebike. Looks like about 8 mph or so. That will be fine for me (cause I’m not a bicyclist but have toured around Bordeaux vineyards on an ebike and greatly enjoyed it) but my husband who is a bicyclist may be bored to death.

I didn't see anything on the one page which came up from the bike rental place about speed.

I did notice that on the English page it didn't mention anything but on the German language page it offers a KONUS card discount. No good if your hotel is your boat, but perhaps other reads not on a boat may benefit.

I contacted Sid at Breisacher Fahrradverleih via email in Dec 2023 and Jan 2024 and have not had a response yet. We are scheduled to arrive in Breisach in May 2024. Maybe he closes up shop in the winter. Hopefully, he checks emails sometime in the spring.

Sid responded and we are all set to take a guided tour with him on Aug. 14th, much cheaper than what the boat offers. And if we can get others to join us on the approximately 2-3 hr guided tour, we can all (up to 20 people) split the same guide cost, making it even cheaper. So if anybody out there is going to be on the aug 8th viking departure from Amsterdam to Basel and you want to go on a guided bike tour on the 14th, get hold of me now or on the boat. We are the ones from Florida - jackie and bob. Thanks.

I read your post with great interest. We are doing a Viking cruise on the Rhine in September. The Viking EBike rental was sold out so I thank you for your link. I was able to rent a bike on my own for Breisach. Did you attempt to rent an E Bike on your own anywhere else, such as Kinderdijk? I will be looking into that.
Also, we would like to see Heidelberg but we have no interest in spending the day with a guide. Is there a way to get to Heidelberg on our own that you have found?
My wonderful mother and father in law from San Marcos, Texas will be on your cruise. I hope you enjoy!
Thank you in advance.

I have been trying to find a bike rental in Breisach. I have sent Sid@Farradverleih several emails w/o response. Does anyone know of another bike rental in Breisach or near there. We will be on a Rhine River cruise in Set 2024.

In replying to the two posters right above, i have no answer. We have just arrived today in amsterdam to take viking cruise in two days. I dont know why our suggested bike place has not answered. They did us. I will try to remember to say something to them but we wont be seeing them until about 9 days.

Thank you to the above post concerning offering to mention to Sid that I have not been able to reach. him. The last email I sent to him was undeliverable as the mailbox was full.
I have been trying to find other rental shops in the area. There was mentioned in Colmar, France. Has anybody had experience with this particular shop?

Tina94: we went with Sid today and it was great. He was only a 2-3 minute walk from the dock, very kind, attentive to my needs as someone who has not ridden a bike in years and has lung issues. We had a great time. Colmar would not be possible i dont think. And i told Sid about his not answering your email and he never made any excuses. He said there were a lot he had not answered but that he sent you an email last night. So hopefully he did and you can go with him. We were charged about 3.5 hrs of his time. It was still half vikings cost and besides that i didnt want to be out for about 8.5 hrs which was the length of the Viking biking. And i dont think they probably biked much further than we did. They must have putzed around a lot.

Thank you jtridle! Sid did send me an email and we are all set. I really appreciate you going the extra mile and personally mentioning this to Sid. I understand this is a self guided tour. Is that correct? I thought the rate was just a flat 45 euros? Either way seems much less expensive than Viking and I prefer the self guided tour. Thank you so much and enjoy the rest of your trip.
