EasyPASS-RTP and EES

I've just read the instructions, it's aimed at frequent visitors (as in multiple visits each year) and the first occasion is likely to take longer than first time EES. The time saving comes on following visits. First registration is basically a trial period of one year which must be renewed in person in the final 90 days of that year or it gets cancelled.

I agree that the first time would most likely take longer! But then maybe after that, departing (and entering again) would be shorter! It would depend, probably, on whether there is a separate line for passport control (EES) for individuals with EasyPASS.

I have Easypass and used it exiting Germany last month.

Yes, I got to use the egates but you still have to see an officer, at this time, to get your passport stamped. (Germany still likes stamps.) It's not the regular EES line but an officer stationed as you exit the egates.

It's supposed to save time. Your first time through, you will still have to register for EES. I asked if my EasyPass could be used for registration and they said no, you have to register separately for EES.

My problem was I entered Schengen and registered for EES in Austria. Austria no longer stamps. Germany wants stamps. So I had to show them which day I entered Schengen. You would have thought the system would have told them but no.

Frank - that is so interesting about their EES system's data not being sufficient to show your prior entry into Schengen in Austria.

Well, clearly everything on EES has to shake out. But having just come across the German EasyPASS system, wanted to see how that was working. I'm just hoping that they start having separate lines for those ALREADY registered with EES verses just getting in Passport Control lines for non EU folks. (I do like the stamps, however!)

I thought Easypass might go away once people are registered for EES. It's supposed to let those folks use the egates. Eventually.
