A friend has invited me to a concert in Baden-Baden on Thursday July 7. However, I will be in Budapest that week. Wondering how feasible it would be to get there and back to Budapest? I am guessing it my be more hassle than it's worth but just checking

It is not particularly difficult by train, it will just take until the next ice age.
Budapest to Munich, Munich to Stuttgart, Stuttgart to Baden Baden Baden Baden Baden. Then the bus into town or a taxi. The station is a fair way out.
Or fly.
Keep in mind you can also do Budapest to Munich by night train, after which you 'll have to transfer trains a couple of times.
Eurowings (the new name for Germanwings) has a couple of flights per day between Budapest and Stuttgart, and Lufthansa between Budapest and Frankfurt. The travel time between the two airports and Baden Baden is probably about equal when you note that you can get long distance trains straight from Frankfurt airport, whereas Stuttgart airport is only served by local services.
