Eagles Nest - Tickets

We will be in the Berchtesgaden area the first week of August and Eagle's Nest is on our must do list.
I presumed previously from reading things that pre-booking tickets wasn't necessary. But am now questioning this.
Should I be pre-buying these tickets (not interested in doing an organized tour.) We will have a car to drive to the car park where the bus goes from to go.
We were hoping to decide, based upon weather when we went and for how long. Pre-booked tickets are time-slotted.
So if you advise we should pre-buy, how long should we allow in the time slots we book?
Thanks.

The official name for the Eagle's Nest is Kehlsteinhaus, named after the mountain, Kehlstein upon which it sits. It was nicknamed Eagle's Nest because someone, I believe the French Ambassador, when he visited it, called it the "nest of eagles".

It was built as a 50th (?) birthday present from the Nazi party to Hitler. Hitler rarely went there, because he didn't like heights.

From the Kehlsteinhaus official website, FAQs,

Are reservations required for bus journey?

Unless you are booking for a group of ten or more people, no. Tickets
are allocated on a first come first served basis, so it is advisable
to arrive early to tailor your visit as best as possible.

BTW, I've made three visits to Kehlsteinhaus since 2000, and I've never had a problem with walk-up tickets for the buses.
