Dusseldorf v. Frankfurt

Which city should we spend 2 nights? We will be going to Germany from Amsterdam. I wanted to stop at Dusseldorf or Frankfurt first. The rest of the itinerary would be:

Munich (3 nights)
Berlin (3 nights)
Hamburg (3 nights)

We will be taking a day trip from Munich to the Neuschwanstein Castle.

We are traveling with a younger crowd (21-28 years old) and are looking for more fun than historic places. Also appreciate beautiful landscape, good beer, and a friendly atmosphere.

Both have a pretty good bar scene. Frankfurt probably beats Duesseldorf for landscape. Frankfurt is a big (alcoholic) cider town, but beer is also available.

Supposedly, because it's the home of the German fashion industry, Düsseldorf attracts a younger, more out-going demographic. But in actuality, I've not noticed any difference in the populace between Düsseldorf and any German city of comparable size.

Both Frankfurt and Düsseldorf are rather modern cities, but I find Frankfurt more attractive. As the other poster noted, the landscape around Frankfurt is much more interesting. You have the Taunus mountains to the north, the Odenwald mountains to the south and the famous Mittelrhein just to the west. There's plenty of attractive old towns in the region. Düsseldorf and it's environs are mostly flat, and because it's hinterland was vitually carpet-bombed during the war, most of the buildings and infrastructure date from the post-war period.
