No Dusseldorf suggestions to add from a personal or Rick Steves' perspective. Should you happen to run out of things to do there, then Cologne is a half-hour away by train, and right outside Cologne train station, there's a gothic cathedral, Roman history museum, and modern art museum.
Düsseldorf isn't really a tourist highlight. It's not an ugly city, but if you're looking for Old World Charm... you won't find much of it in Düsseldorf. It's pretty modern and rather industrial. If you're interested in shopping, this is the fashion capital of Germany. It has a small Altstadt, but unlike many cities in Germany where the Altstadt is the thriving heart of the city, in Düssseldorf, it's kind of neglected. It looks more like an old quarter that they haven't yet gotten around to ripping down, rather than a well-preserved historical core. There's a pleasent promenade along the Rhine. The district of Oberkassel on the opposite bank of the Rhine is one of the most beautiful residential areas I've seen in any city, but it's just that- a residential district.
The Kunstpalast museum has a world-class collection of glassware, if you're interested.
Hello!
Do you know about Neanderthal Museum in Mettmann, a town bordering directly with Dusseldorf (in the eastern direction as to Wuppertal)? You can read about it on

Have a nice time in Dusseldorf!

Hi,
If you tire of Düsseldorf, such as the Altstadt and the weathy Königsallee, I suggest for the uniqueness and charm Kaiserswerth. Take the U-Bahn from Düsseldorf Hbf.
