We will be in the Mosel/Rhine area for 4 nights (2 nights in Cochem, 2 nights in Boppard) in late April. When we depart Boppard we would like to take a quick drive thru Franconia (hopefully I got the area right) and are also planning on driving to Rothenburg from Boppard on a Monday, arriving mid-afternoon, spending that late afternoon, evening and next morning, in Rothenburg, and then making our way to Frankfurt on the Tuesday for an early morning flight home on the Wednesday. Our intention is to arrive in Frankfurt late afternoon or early evening as we exepct to make a stop or two enroute from Rothenburg to Frankfurt.
So, my question, what would be the best route given we have a rental car from Boppard-Rothenburg, then Rothenburg-Frankfurt that balances getting quickly from point A to B, ideally not driving the same road twice, and with perhaps the opportunity to stop at a town or town long the way. However, I wold rather drive the same highway twice if it meant seeeing another neat town or tow.
We would likely spend a few hours in Wurzburg on one of the legs and in reading the forum, there are lots of neat towns not that far off the main highways - just hard to pick which ones!
Thanks for any advice.
