Driving from the Mosel to the Rhine

Hi,
We are thinking about staying along the Mosel, perhaps in Punderich or Zell. If we want to drive to the Rhine for a daytrip, what are the roads like? It looks like we'd be cutting across the mountains if we want to go to Bacharach or thereabouts. Is it an easy drive, or is it narrow winding roads, for example? I get carsick on windy mountain roads, so I want to be sure I'm prepared! We'd rather not take the train since we'll already have the car.

On a side note, what is the parking like along the Rhine? If we want to drive from town to town, will it be easy to find parking?

Thanks,
Rachel

From Zell to Bacharach is mostly on a 'B' road which is the first step 'down' from an Autobahn so it should be fine - large two-lane with some sections having more lanes and a modest amount of twisting (100KM speed limit kind of road) . The last few KM is on a local 2 lane road and especially the final decent to the Rhine will involve several twists, but all things considered it is not an alpine kind of situation.

I found plenty of public parking at the various small towns along the Rhine from Bingen to Boppard. We were there in late May so the parking lots were almost empty - it may be different in the summer.

Have fun!

Be prepared to pay wherever you park. You may be lucky and find some short term dashboard clock parking.

Thanks everyone! Do you have a sense of how much parking is and if there are time limits? I'd imagine we'd want to spend a few hours in one town, then drive to the next. We just want to make sure we don't spend all our time trying to find spots, or paying more than it would be to park in one spot and then just use the train for the rest of the day.

Last year we drove from Bacharach to Cochem, and yes,we drove some very curvy hilly areas, and I got a bit carsick. The scenery was wonderful and worth the slight nausea. This year I'm taking Dramamine. Good luck, and have a great time.
