Hi, We are spending a day driving from Lucerne Switzerland to Freiburg Germany. We will have already visited Zurich. Any recommendations for places to stop and see along the way? We don't want to add too much extra driving to our day. Thanks!
The Google Maps app has a new feature called "Ask Maps." Try that. It should be good at generating places of interest. Just be sure to verify the recommendations.

You can try Mainau Island on lake Constance, if it is not too far (adds about 2 hours).
I'm probably to late, but:
Mainau is a mad idea, it's MILES off course
The autobahn via Basel is right on course - and should be avoided!!!!
My answer would have been, north out of Luzern heading for Koblenz ( the swiss one, north west of Zurich) cross the border bridge to Waldshut (various autobahn combinations, running time to here about 90 minutes) and then take the german B500. This climbs away from the river and is a scenic highlight road. You'll find various views and stopping places, especially along the Schluchtsee about 30 minutes in. Leave the B500 at Hinterzarten and follow the B31 into Freiburg.
Just a few (3 to 5?) km west of Hinterzarten is the Ravenna Gorge. We enjoyed a 30 or 45 minute walk along a trail through there on our way from the more central Black Forest into Freiburg. Not too many folks on the trails … there are quite a few trails through the gorge area. See komoot trail maps Ravenna Gorge
Between the parking area and the trail, there’s a hotel, gift shop with many cuckoo clocks and facilities if you need a WC. As we returned from our hike, we encountered a Viking Cruise tour group at the gift shop for a tour of the clocks.
