Driving along the Rhine River

My husband and I will arriving in Frankfurt on a Friday morning and renting a car. We will be staying in Bacharach for two nights. We would prefer to drive along the Rhine River versus taking a Rhine River Cruise. Can someone please give us suggestions on coming from Frankfurt airport to drive along the Rhine and then crossing over to the other side to end up in Bacharach.

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. There's three bridges over the river around Wiesbaden and Mainz and the next downriver is not until you reach Koblenz. I wouldn't particularly recommend driving immediately after flying overseas (assuming you're coming from North America), due to the jet lag. But if you must, just take the most direct route to Bacharach, which would be one of the two Autobahn bridges around Mainz, then continue downriver via Bingen.

There are several cheap and quick ferries that take cars from one margin to the other.

Oh dear, you don't admit whether you're driving immediately after flying all night?
Tom's a doctor so you might want to give his comment about driving after flying some consideration.
Safety above all else....no?

You are right that driving is faster than boating. But it's not a "cruise". The boat(s) make the entire journey in just part of a day. The boats also have a better view than driving. But if you prefer to drive, it's up to you. BTW, are you aware that the most scenic part of the Rhine is considered to be Bingen to Boppard, which is only a few hours on the boat? There's less point in looking at other parts of the Rhine, unless you're in the freight barge business.

Koblenz (a much nicer city than usually gets credit on this website)?
