Dress for Berlin Philharmonic & Komische Oper

Hello all,

I will be traveling to Berlin in October and I've purchased tickets to a performance of West Side Story at the Komische Oper. I live in NYC and here Broadway can be very laid back—jeans are common—and am wondering if it's the same in Berlin. I'm hoping to pack lightly, so would love to avoid a suit if I can. I'll be packing khakis or chinos, so I'm hopeful.

Also, would a collared shirt and khakis be acceptable for a weeknight at the Berlin Philharmonic?

Many thanks in advance!

I can't comment on the Komische Oper, but khakis and a collared shirt would be fine for the Berlin Phil. Ultimately, it comes down to what makes you comfortable. You would not be refused entry in jeans, sneakers and a Tshirt... but you would look out of place.

Thanks, Tom! I can't wait to see these great venues. Both of them look amazing and it will be fun to see West Side Story in a different language. The universal power of music!
