Our family of 8 will be heading from Dresden to Prague just before Xmas. It includes my 80 year old mother and we are wondering what would be the easiest form of transportation for this part of our trip. We always took the train, but we were a couple, and not the whole family...any other options?
Thank you so much for suggestions.
Dresden is on the main line between Berlin and Prague, so trains are frequent and comfortable.
We used CK Shuttle to get fom Prague to Cesky Krumlov, and then from Cesky Krumlov to Vienna - van shuttle for both trips. In theory they serve Dresden, so you might inquire of them. They are very well organized, were on time, and driver spoke perfect English. Fares were reasonable. Their vans hold eight - could be a tight fit if all adults. But they would pick you up at your hotel, saving the logistics of getting to the train station.
The train is the best- it’s quick and quite scenic as the route along the Elbe River takes you past castles perched above the Elbe.
If you buy the train tickets online in advance on the Czech Republic’s National Railway ( “Ceske drahy”) website, second class tickets for seniors ( 65+) are as low as $6 and adult tickets are as low $14. You have to buy them at www.cd.cz Dresden Hbf to Praha hl.n. is the route. In general, you can buy tickets 60-90 days in advance; however tickets for travel beyond December 10 will not be sold until December 11 when the train schedules are reset with minor changes.
Thank you....will the train accommodate a walker?.... is that Dec 11 scheduling also the case for Bahn.de?.....once we arrive at the Prague station, what is the best way to transport all of us?.....do you know if there are vans available?....again, thank you for your help...

The DB will publish the new time tables on October, 12, and then the trains are also bookable. The CD will publish them around the same time.
We took the train from Dresden to Prague in 2019. It’s a nice ride as another poster stated. The only issue we had, was finding the taxi stand which it’s right by the train station. We had to walk down to the Main Street to catch a taxi. I’m sorry I don’t have info about a van service.
Thank you so much for the information.....
It is mandatory for train companies to provide accessibility support. I must also admit what the support is. Maybe send a query to the train company and tourism boards, who can advise the details.
Since you've been Prague by train, you should be aware of the potential pitfalls getting from the train station to your hotel - and the universal warning not to get into a cab right out front of the station.
You might check out the Transportation section on livingprague.com - Jason recommends a transfer service from the airport - you might be able to hire them from the train station. They may also offer service from Dresden.
Living Prague is a great resource for visiting the city.
But traveling with your mother, door to door van service from Dresden to your hotel in Prague may still be your best bet - the additional cost may be well worth it to avoid transfers to and from the train stations.
Thank you so much for the website....we will certainly be in touch with the transport company and enjoy reading other suggestions on the website....
