We would like to take a day trip (I know, we should take more time!) from Dresden to Prague and back. I am confused and concerned by info on the internet about bad bus lines, etc.
I would really like recommendations for reliable travel - bus or train. We are staying very near the Dresden Hbf on Bayrische Strasse.
I need e-ticketing because we want to go May 12.
If you can provide specifics, like the actual URL, to cut out middlemen, that would be great.

Go by train. You can print your return ticket at home. Have the same credit card with when you travel (it will act as your ID) and call your credit card co first to inform them you are making an overseas purchase. 38 euro Savings Fare per person round trip.

Travel time is about 2.5 hours each way on the direct train. Price goes up to 70 euros roundtrip if you don't lock in the Savings Fare (and departure times) a few days ahead.
Alternatively here is the bus. Journey time is only 2 hours one-way, so 30mins shorter than the train. Train ride is more scenic though:
Train is the better choice, since you cross Saxon/Bohemian Switzerland. From Dresden to Prague the mountains are on the left, on the way back on the right side.
