Where are you looking? The DB website (bahn.com) shows e.g., for Sept 15 normal traffic, I.e. an direct EC every other hour. This trains are operated jointly bei CD and DB, not by Regio Jet, which offers a bus service between Berlin, Dresden and Prague. NB. Cross check train fares with Czech Rail, tickets are there often cheaper.

Note that the link posted above (db.com) goes to Deutsche Bank. For train travel, use www.bahn.de

And yes, apart from the direct morning train and some evening trains the rest of the day the trip involves a bus trip (Schienenersatzverkehr) across the border and a train from there. So there is probably some construction going on.

everything after that is bus

Track work: till February 2023, every Monday replacement buses between Dresden and Usti nad Laben.

@Badger: Thanks for the correction of the bahn link

Czech trains also travel from Dresden Hbf to Praha hln ( Prague’s main train station) and if you go to the Czech train website there are several direct no-transfer trains for 351 Czech Crowns ( US $14.26) taking 2.5 hours. Now that’s a deal!
If you ever are traveling by train into or out of the Czech Republic, be sure to check out the Czech train website which usually offers the best deals.

seems the czech railway has stopped selling on this route
for direct trains and Deutsche bahn wants really high
fares for same routing

Not true. Tickets for czk 351 (train specific) and czk 753 are still available for your travel date at the CD web shop.

But why not use the RegioJet bus for approx. €16 if you want to avoid the transfer in Usti n.L.

If you need to do a transfer in Usti, it’s quite simple.
as the train station there is really small with 3 or 4 tracks.
