I would like ideas on how to get to Bad Frankenhaus without renting a car. I checked on some rates and I was quoted $81 for a 12 hour rental. Are there any bus tours to local sites around Dresden such as Saxon Switzerland?
I spent five days in the Saxon Switzerland in 2012, in a town called Bad Schandau. There is S-Bahn service from Dresden up the Elbe to Pirna, Bad Schandau and other SS towns.
Saxon Switzerland is east of Dresden on the Elbe. Frankenhausen is well west of Dresden. You can get close by train but the final run to Frankenhausen is by bus, but it won't cost 81.

I don't think bus tours to sites like Saxon Switzerland exist, since it's very easy to do it on your own. You just need a day ticket for all zones and simply take the train, which follows the Elbe river. You can also take the paddle steamer (separate ticket) to Saxon Switzerland and return by train. You can see many sights this way, like Königstein fortress, Pillnitz castle, Meissen or Pirna.
