Different last name when booking rental car

Hi,

I just realize my hubby booked the rental car with a different last name with the ID. Well actually, in our country, last name is not compulsory so many of us have only given names. Thus, he put his father's last name when booking the car >_<. We normally input the last name the same with the first name.

I try to modify the booking but there's no available option for modifying the last name. Emailing them is pretty hopeless. I've tried emailing them twice for different queries before but no response up to now. Would this be a problem when we retrieve the car?

Also, the picking up time is at 12noon, if we arrive around 11am or 13pm, would this be a problem too?

Jen, it sounds like the best (only?) solution would be to actually call the rental company and discuss with them. Clarifying this before pickup would be smart, imo.

As far as the pickup time, that is probably not an issue, unless they don't have a car early for you.

Also phoning the pick up office if arriving late might be helpful, to let them know you're still coming to collect the rental car, and that they will hold it for you. Happy motoring!

Car rental agreements that I have seen can be changed or cancelled, usually with generous deadlines, so correcting the driver's name does not sound like an issue. I would guess that it's more important for insurance coverage than for actually picking up the car; they are only insuring the named drivers and want you to tell them if more than one person may drive. Agents should also check your driving license before handing over the keys.

I gotta ask -- what country? Do your passports have only one name? How about your driver licenses?

Hi All,

Thanks for the inputs. We could not change the last name as it is used as a log in ID to our reservation. The only way to do is to cancel that and create a new one but yesterday we could not find the exact same offer w/ the car leaving us with no choice but to stick w/ the reservation.

My hubby already emailed them and print it out just to ensure we've tried to contact them beforehand.

All our ID, passport, driving license and IDP only have one name which is our given name.

Also I just receive email from the rental company in regards to previous email, this email is before I realize with the surname thing ( they don't exactly answering my questions though). They told me to call before picking up the car? Is this a must?
