Deutschland ticket-Need internet to use?

Hello, I have some questions concerning using the D ticket. I just purchased from the FahrPlaner app for month of September by credit card. Everything went smoothly. My issue is it looks like I need wifi in order for the app to open the ticket!
When online I see the ticket and QR code to use, however when I am on airplane mode (ie no data or internet) it will not show the ticket. We do not plan to buy an international plan for data and only will have wifi in hotspots (hotel, restaurants, etc..) Does the ticket require internet when using on a train or can I just take a screenshot of the ticket and use that?

I guess my main question is can we just assume the screenshot of the ticket is all we need in order to use the ticket? If not, what do you do if you dont have internet?
Thanks for any advice!

I found your post interesting as Fahrplaner app only gives me the choice of july or August for purchasing a ticket. I was waiting until Friday to see if September would come up then. I just checked again and no option for September yet.

Edited to Update: tried several times on Fahrplaner with no September option. Switched to MVV app and had success on first try. The key with MVV is to keep the emails they send you as one has the link to cancel subscription. I purchased my Sept. ticket one day and cancelled my subscription effective Sept 30th the next.

Hi jt. Did it give you an option and/or send you an email with a pdf file? I bought several train tix recently online from bahn.de and downloaded a pdf file of the tix to my phone; then it was available anytime.

Bob, the Deutschland Ticket is not a ticket as such, but an app on your smart phone.

Did you try saving it to your Wallet app?

I was in Germany for 2 weeks in June and didn’t have data. Not having data and using the ticket was something that I was worried about before my trip. Of course, this was my experience and isn't necessarily representative, but I hope it helps...I was probably asked 6 or so times to show my ticket and I showed a screenshot. One of those times, the conductor said I had to open the app and I explained I didn't have data and they just waved me off, so it ended up being fine.

Perhaps purchasing international data plan is warranted to make sure have no problems.

Thanks for the responses. I checked and we can buy a data plan so will probably go with that.

Quoting the Fahrplaner web site:
Sie müssen nicht mit dem Internet verbunden sein.
"You don't need to be connected to the internet".
