Deutschland Ticket - automatically charged

I had purchased DT ticket on Sept 7th for Month of Sept. We only needed it upto Sept 26 - much to my surprise I got charged again for Month of Oct on 26th night. I had expected to cancel on the 27th - day of our departure. I didn't see schedule posted by bvv app email when I purchased the ticket.

I have cancelled the ticket ASAP.

Is there a way I can appeal for a refund for Oct ?

I am sorry you had this surprise. As posted above the rules are clear so I would not waste time on an appeal. We use MVV app and it is very easy to cancel immediately after purchase, and ticket remains active for that month.

No, no appeal, you did not follow the requirements of the subscription.

Just look on the bright side, if you were there for 3 weeks or so, then you likely not only got you 50 euros of travel worth, but also the 100 euros, and very likely much more. Just think of it as a donation to a national company in the hopes that it will help their service improve.

For others, my choice was to buy through Tranzer ( https://europe.tranzer.com/ticket-product/73 ) While they do charge a 2 or 3 euro fee, you can make a one time payment using a US credit card (no Paypal routine or going through one of the regional transit authorities), No setting up an account, no need to cancel the subscription, just a simple one time buy.

you had this surprise

Which surprise? It is clearly communicated at several occasions that it is a monthly subscription ticket. So, if the user name of OP is to be taken literally, I would say “rtfm” - with a friendly wink of course.

Looking back at the OP's postings they originally planned to buy the Deutschland Ticket from Tranzer.

So either they did and something went wrong with the Tranzer Process (in which case any appeal is to them) or purchased direct to save the Tranzer fee and came unstuck.

Or maybe Tranzer isn't the one off purchase they claim- maybe they still expect you to do the cancellation. The small print T's and C's need to be checked.

I purchased through Tranzer, it is a one time charge, they cancel. I even received an email notifying my ticket was about to expire, and if I needed one for the next month, I needed to purchase.

Another feature of Tranzer vs other options, is that they allow you to purchase for the current month, after the 10th, without purchasing the following month.

I have cancelled the ticket ASAP

With your app, make sure you have cancelled November and any further renewals as well. As stated, deadline is October 10th. Sorry this happened. D-Ticket is great, but a little confusing for first time users.

@Paul-Thank you for sharing your experience with Tranzer. I am thinking of using it for our upcoming trip but didn't hear many people talk about it. I downloaded the app on my phone and had a couple of exchanges with their customer services. They seemed to be responsive.
Was it easy to use?
Thanks!

Sorry about your experience here, my wife and I just got back from Europe but before we left, I got my DT through Tanzer. But for your case, I guess rake it up to a learned experience! I don't think there is any recourse for an appeal or refund.
I learned about this Tanzer thing through the website; www.seat61.com
A great informational on train travel around Europe.

Hi Friends - dhb60, jeansn6, jkh, Paul, isn31c, MarkK, Paul, Carol, travel4fun :

Thank you all for valuable insight.

From my perspective : I had bought tickets on Sept 7 from 'bvv app' with a start date of Sept 14. We were charged pro-rated 27.7 Euros from Sept 14-Sept 30. On the app, there was a message that I need to cancel before 10th - this was in German and missed cancelling this before Sept 10 - This indeed was MY MISTAKE.

Fast forward, they charged 49 Euros for Oct only on Sept 27th - since it took so long for them to charge, it led me to believe I still had time to cancel, as I had overlooked message on the app -- Alas not !

( I wish they had this clearly stated in the email too .... )

But I need to look at the bigger picture: I paid 27.7 + 49 = 76.7 Euros. We used public transportation in Germany for 14 days (Sept 14-Sept 27) .. that comes to 5.48 Euros a day !!! I got an amazing bargain .. it is a miniscule amount when I put this with the total we spent on the entire vacation. I feel it is fine if I paid 49 Euros more to the system.

Now .. question for all of you - I have cancelled the tickets .. bvv app shows ticket :

Start
14.09.2024
expires at 31.10.2024
<<

and at the bottom shows a button 'Revoke termination'

I also got email response which says :

Kündigungsbestätigung für dein hvv Deutschlandticket

Hallo xxxx,
dein hvv Deutschlandticket wurde zum 31.10.2024 gekündigt.<<

Translation :

Confirmation of cancellation for your hvv Deutschlandticket

Hello xxxx,
your hvv Deutschlandticket was canceled on October 31, 2024.<<

This tells me I am good now .. and will not be charged any further for November.

Can you all confirm this please ? Or is there anything else I should do ?
Thx for your help.

I second the Trazner comment. That is exactly what I did and it was seamless. Kept it in my Apple Wallet on my phone. No automatic renewal as with other sites that sell the D-ticket.

a third for Tranzer. Had mine in the Apple wallet and the wife had hers as both a screenshot and on the app. All formats worked without hassle when shown to a conductor or bus driver on anything we took.
