With a DB train ticket from Franfurt to Bamberg can the holder get off in Aschaffenburg, spend the night then continue on to Bamberg the next day?
If it's a full fare ticket, yes.
I think the rule is that for trips under 100 km, you have until the end of the day to finish the trip. For trips over 100 km, you have until the end of the next day.
I put in a trip from Frankfurt to Bamberg with a stop of 24 hours in Aschaffenburg on the Bahn website, and the fare was the same as for a trip with no stop in Aschaffenburg.
From the Bahn website (in English) for standard (flexible) tickets:
Period of validity single journey:
Up to 100 km: 1 day
More than 100 km: 2 days
Thank you so much to all respondants. The DB open ticket policy well facitates the short hop traveler and people like me who will look out the window at some village station and say, "Hey, nice town. ' think I'll check it out for a night."
