Hello all - I booked a one-way journey via Deutsche Bahn's website from Frankfurt airport to Dresden Hbf (ICE 1547) for travel on Friday, May 23. When I tried to make the seat reservation, the site said that reservations were not possible at the time. Same message when I logged on today to try again. Is this typical of DB? I don't recall having issues with seat reservations when I booked a similar trip 3 years ago. Would hope that all seats on the train are not reserved 3 months out -- I shudder to think of standing for the 5.5 hour trip. As always, appreciate the advice here!
I'm stumped. I just tried and it came up with this message "Unfortunately we cannot offer you a reservation for the connection you have selected. Please go back and select a new connection, or continue if you wish to book without making a reservation".
If it is any consolation, the train originates at Frankfurt Airport, so get there 20 minutes early and grab a seat when they spot it on the platform.
All I can think is perhaps its too early to request a reservation. But trains never sell out. You'll be able to find a seat, particularly on a less-traveled route like to via Fulda, Erfurt and Leipzig. At worst, if there's several people in your party, you may not all be able to sit with each other.
It seems to be possible now. I just went through both the book- with-reservation and the reservation-without-ticket process and got as far as having to give them a CC #. If I tried the 27th I could still reserve, but for the 28th it told me I was too early - I didn't get the "not possible at this time" message I got yersterday. I think what you saw really was a problem with the reservation system.
