Hey all- We are thinking of doing a road trip along the Alpenstrasse after hitting Oktoberfest in Munich next year. Are there any must see places? We are thinking of saving 3-4 days for this and maybe a day in Salzburg so we can take our time. We've been to Kehlsteinhaus before so we will bypass that this time, but didn't get to see the town of Berchtesgaden. Is it worth a stop?

Lindau, at one end of the Alpenstasse, is a beautiful town and worth all the time you can give it. (I just spent three whole days, four nights, there. You can take the boat across the lake to Switzerland or go up the Pfänderbahn at Bregenz, Austria.)
The Alpenstasse goes through Sonthofen, and from there you can go up the Illertal to Oberstdorf and to the Kleinwalstertal. I would recommend that if you have time for a side trip.
The ride from Kochelsee to Garmisch-Partenkirchen along the Walchensee is pretty.
