Delta and Frankfurt Terminal 3

I saw on Delta's webpage that starting today, May 19, 2026, all Delta flights from Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) will operate from Terminal 3. I am pretty sure too early for answers but i have a trip in July and wanting to find out some insights/info.

  1. Will Delta be using if for departures and arrivals. Webpage only mentions "Flights From". Not sure if they mean from/to or just departures.

  2. Not specifically a Delta question but related to arrivals at terminal 3 and picking up a rental car? do you pick it up at terminal 3 or have to take the tram to terminal 2 for rental car sites?

Any other info would be appreciated.

We were on the first flight departing FRA yesterday from the new terminal. Here is what I can share:

  1. Yes, terminal 3 is for departures & arrivals.

  2. We did not rent a car, but what we learned at the hotel is (at this time) it is best to go to Terminal 1 or 2 and take the tram/rail system. It's a walk to get there, plan on 15-20 minutes (includes the tram ride).

While you did not ask it does seem to be the hot topic lately: the new EES procedure. Again, we can only speak to the departure experience. Once in the correct Terminal and after Security, head to the pre-registration kiosk to scan your passport and fingerprints along with having a photo taken. Then get into the correct line for border patrol (separate lines for US vs. EU). We were in line for 30 minutes before speaking with an officer. They took my fingerprints a second time, stamped my passport (yay!) and then we were off to our gate. For a new terminal the space to wait in line for border patrol is small. We were lucky with our arrival time - when we looked back after 15 minutes, we could not see the end of the line.

Hope you have a safe trip to Germany!

There are several reasons i asked these questions in my OP.

I am taking by son, wife and my dad to germany in late July for my sons graduation. We finalized plans and bought airline tickets and got the rental car reservation. I have been reading up on the FRA airport and viewing the maps of the airport on the airports webpage trying to make the trip as stress free as possible knowing at the time terminal 2 was where Delta operated out of.

Lucky for me I had an unexpected business trip to Germany come up shortly afterwards. My thinking was this is great because i can go through the pain of figuring out all the issues then so it would make the vacation trip smoothly.

So a few weeks ago i heard that terminal 3 was opening and Delta would be operating out of there so all my terminal 2 "dry run" information is OBE. That is why i asked the questions.

Reasons i asked about rental cars is because;
1. I don't know if the rental company has a counter in terminal 3.
2. Since terminal 3 wasn't open when i made my car reservation, the webpage for the rental company i believe indicated terminal 2 as pickup location. Based on this, i assume it would not transfer to terminal 3 so i will have to take the tram to terminal 2 to pick up the car.

There are 3 rental agencies in Terminal 3, but I don't know if you pick up your car there. Send them an email.

Just google your flight and it will tell you which terminal it will depart from or arrive in.
