December trip to Munich

At long last our frequently postponed trip to Germany seems like its on track for December but I had originally researched this trip to happen last spring. Now while my husband has business meeting in Munich, I will be able to see some of the sites . I think while he has a free weekend we might go into Salzburg but I know that the hours things like the museums are open will be shorter. I thought maybe there might be other things I shouldn't miss. I have heard of the Christmas markets but haven't yet researched much on them. Can anyone suggest some December sites and activities to see?
I'm from Texas so not real interested in wonderful skiing. Any help on planning this rather cold vacation would be appreciated.

Thanks Again,
Beth

Hi Beth - my wife and I (from Maryland) are traveling to Munich is December also! Do not worry, based on my experience and research there will be plenty to do! It is my understanding that the Xmas markets are a must see - in fact Munich has something like 24 distinct Xmas markets. We are planning to participate in a 2-hour walking tour of several of the markets via Viator. I also highly recommend finding a Third Reiche tour to join - incredibly interesting stuff. We are eaters - so we plan are days around where we will eat, do not miss out on all of Munich's great food and drink offerings. We always start our visit to Munich (this is our 3 times in 2 years) with dinner at the Hofbrauhaus - it is a little touristy, but super fun and very "Bavarian." Salzburg is a fantastic day trip from Munich, it is very easy to buy train tickets the day of, and pop on down to Austria. Good Luck in your planning!

Do be aware that Viator is just a re-seller of other peoples tours. If there are any problems with your booking, etc. good luck. They are known for not being consistent in problem solving.

If you look on Trip Advisor, you will find dozens and dozens of tour operators in Munich, one of which will be the same exact same one you are booking with on Viator. That company has had to pay a 25% commission to Viator for your booking. They would certainly rather have you book directly with them.
