DB ticketing FRA>Köln

Hello - Arriving FRA from transatlantic flight at 11:15 on a Wednesday next month. I'd like to travel to Köln on the earliest fast train practical. There's a 12:42 departure catching my eye.
In order to save money, should I buy a ticket for this train now? What happens if my flight is late and I miss the train...is the ticket non-refundable? The tickets are about 20euro advance purchase.
Thanks

I am 100% certain that you are looking at a supersaver (Super Sparpreis) fare, which, as the DB site makes clear, is non-refundable. You would lose the €20 and have to buy a new ticket at the standard fare.

Did you click on the thin red box with the white arrow at the far right of your chosen itinerary? If you do that, you will see a page with the ticket options. The Flexpreis ticket priced at €53.70 - the standard fare, which you do not need to pre-purchase - will permit travel on a later train in this circumstance. The Flexpreis box reads,

Flexpreis
-Cancellation before first day of validity free (or just buy it at the airport.)
-City-Ticket included
-Unrestricted choice of trains on day of travel

In all the boxes for the various ticket types you can click on "conditions" for more details.
