Landing at MUC then heading straight to Salzburg. I purchased 1st Class Ticket for me and my wife on bahn.de. So I have a paper ticket and also have a copy on the DB app. Train is the S8 to Munich Ost, then transfer to the RE5 to Salzburg. There is just 1 QR code for both trains and both passengers. Hopefully someone is familiar.. Do I just show the QR code to the conductor on the S8 (assuming there is a conductor on this train) and then again on the RE5? Do I have to validate first on one of those scanners? Also, on the RE5, 1st class seems to mean we can access a car with a 1 on it, but there is no reserved seat and if needed we can get on a different RE5 train, does that sound correct? We've train traveled in Italy, CH, France, Spain and Portugal but this seems a little different. Just want to know what to expect.
Yes, you have bought regional train tickets. You just board both trains, and if a conductor asks, show the QR code. Easy. These trains have no reserved seats, just sit where you want. The first train is an S-Bahn and has no 1st class that I can recall.
The RE5 goes only every hour, so it will be an hour if you get picky about seats.
Some regional do not have any entire car that is all 1st class, so maybe only half a car, but marked on the door.
If you’re concerned about seats, and you have a couple of extra minutes in your connection, you can board the RE5 at Munich Hauptbahnhof where it originates.
Although Munich Ost is a smaller station and may be easier to navigate if you’ve never been to Hbf.
Thank you both.. Good information
If the DB site did the right thing you probably got a "Bayern Ticket" which is good for all regional travel in the State of Bayern for a whole day. So you can take anything you want with that ticket that has an R or an S in it...
If you have travelled in CH you will notice that it is very similar. Get on a train. Show ticket when asked.
Awesome!! Thanks for that info..
