Hello, I am on a river cruise in September that takes us from Passau to Lindau on disembarkation day (Sept 27). It looks to be about a half hour travel time between those two river ports, getting us to Lindau at 7:30 am. We are arranging our own train transport to Salzburg that day. If I take the 8:23 am Lindau-Insel to Bregenz to Salzburg route, I avoid the transfer in Munich. However, the transfer time in Bregenz is 3 min. It would appear as though the platforms are adjacent. However, if there is any delay in our Lindau-Insel departure, I worry about a 3 min transfer time. Furthermore, is it advisable for me to even book a 8:23 train departure from Lindau-Insel if we are arriving at 7:30. I have only been on ocean cruises so I am unfamiliar with disembarkation day on a river cruise and how soon we can expect to be getting off the ship.
Firs thing first: You cannot get from Passau to Lindau in half an hour. That is physically impossible. The distance is just to large. Furthermore Passau is to the North - East of Salzburg. Travelling all the way to Lindau only to travel then all the way back does not make any sense.
And while Lindau is a nice place adding it to a Danube river cruise does not make sense at all.
So first look at a map, and look at your cruise program again. If the cruise ends in Passau and you want to travel to Salzaburg just travel Passau - Salzburg.
As we've established on my other post, the cruise company created confusion with the 30 min boat trip from Passau to Lindau. They should have referred to it as Lindau Pier, which we discovered to be the accurate description of where we disembark.
Looks like Lindau Pier is close to the Passau-Lindau train station, just east of Passau. Lindau-Insel and Bregenz are about 250 miles west of Passau.
After dismbarkation take a taxi to the Passau Banhof, 10 minutes or so. From Passau there is an 8:40 train to Salzburg, one change in Wels. The next one change train is at 10:26.
A journey with two changes leaves Passau at 9:36.
No idea how long it takes to disembark.
Passau-Lindau does not have regular train service, just a few tourist trains on some days...
But there is a bus service. I would however take a taxi. But inquire with the cruise line if they are organising transfers.
The cruise company only provides transfer to Munich airport. As someone mentioned, this question about transfers to Salzburg from Passau comes up a lot. I have already raised this with our cruise company.
