DB Regional Day Ticket

I'm going to be in northern Germany for two days in early March. I'm arriving via Flixbus in Schwerin, visiting Schwerin on the first day, and traveling to Ludwigslust, (possibly back to Schwerin), and on to Rostock on the second day. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get around between Schwerin, Ludwigslust, and Rostock, and one of the things I stumbled upon is the DB Regional Day Ticket. The various DB tickets are really confusing me, but this one appears to allow for unlimited travel within one region on one day for 23 Euro.

Has anyone had experience with the Regional Day Ticket? And is this something I should be purchasing in advance online, or could pick up in Schwerin the morning of my travel?

Yes, that's where I found it. But it didn't mention if I should purchase online. I'm glad to hear that it worked for you, though - I take it this is the best type of ticket for me?

The day pass you mention is not valid before 9 am on weekdays. If you buy it online, you get no discount. And it's non-refundable once purchased. So if you need it, just buy it at the station - it never sells out. I doubt you need it.

Schwerin to Ludwigslust is only €9.30 each way on the regional trains for a normal ticket. Don't buy the pass.
A normal ticket from Schwerin to Rostock is €20.70 on the regional trains. Again, not worth getting the day pass you mention.

Like the day pass, regional trains don't sell out and cost the same at the station as they do pre-purchased. Don't bother.

If you were traveling with others, a day pass might be worth your attention.

Russ, I'm doing Schwerin to Ludwigslust to Schwerin to Rostock all in the same day, though, so isn't the day pass cheaper?

Aha - I read your plans differently - was thinking Ludwigslust was part of Day 1.

Yes, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ticket / day pass is in that case better - as long as you can leave Schwerin after 9 am (should your day of travel be a weekday, that is.)

Hi,

That is a good itinerary. I went from Schwerin in 2015 back to Berlin. The bus (Pendelverkehr) left Schwerin Hbf to Ludwigslust, where I had to transfer to a train with Berlin Ostbahnhof as the terminus. Be sure assuming you have the time to see the Schloss in Ludwigslust.
