Anyone know how far in advance the City Night Line trains open up for Booking on bahn.com?
3 months is it.
and they are finishing at the end of the year
Splurge for the deluxe private sleep cabin. It includes a toilet/shower, table/chairs, lots of storage space for your gear, excellent AC, and windows positioned so you can see the scenery as you are lying in your bed. Excellent experience.
I was planning on going for the deluxe since we'll be 3 people. Strange if 3 months I should be able to book a date in August but nothing past Jul for now. Is Germany like Italy trains where TrenItalia does a schedule update in June?
What train are you looking at?

Right now I'm finding booking information for a CNL train from Cologne to Prague for mid-August. What route are you looking for. Maybe it's a route that is already discontinued or not running that day.

The schedule goes from midnight Sat/Sun on the 2nd weekend in June to the second weekend in December, but the new schedule is already now in place. The Bahn get theirs in place about a month and a half before the effective date of the actual update; Trenitalia is often quite late, even sometimes after the actual date.

I'm looking Bologna Centrele (Italy) to Munich.
That train has a note:
CNL 484: Bologna Centrale->München Hbf: Information. This train is temporarily not bookable due to constraction works.
I think they misspelled "construction". Typical for August. RR construction season.
So it is not that the train is unbookable because of the date, but that there are restrictions because of construction work. It looks like you can also book an ES to Venice and a CNL train from there to Munich.
I am going to be in Munich for a few days in early July, and have a free Sunday. Was pondering a quick visit to Berlin (have been before but missed some things, and an acquaintance lives there as well). The night train idea is appealing to me as a way to maximize time, but I have heard so many different views on people's experiences. Is this CNL particularly grand compared to others? I would be traveling by myself; love the idea of a shower to arrive fresh!

Apart from the luxury Orient Express "land cruise" style trains, City Nightline is considered the best night train operator in Europe.
Todd,
There are no direct night trains from Munich to Berlin. You must take a late train to Mannheim and board just before midnight to get there at 6:30 am. Takes 10 1/2 hours what can be done in 6 hours in daylight.
Go the night before and get a room and a good night's sleep and a shower in a room that doesn't shake.
There is also a way to avoid to Mannheim by taking the night train direct Munich to Hannover, then change to Berlin. Last June the direct CNL Munich Hbf to Berlin Hbf did exist, arrrived at 0800.
