hello
I have the DB app and was looking at train tickets before our trip. It does not appear to offer youth 16-28 tickets, only free child or child (age 6-14) or adult. Is there a way around that? The website offers youth which is why I'm confused.
Also...say I have a German Rail Pass, certain trains I need a reservation. Can I do that thru the app? Since I don't have the ticket in hand it was difficult to utilize the app in that way. Just wondering if I am better off just using the online website vs the app for purchase.
I bought my ICE train ticket via the DB website then downloaded the app. I found the app useful for the tickets itself and in updating train times. So I would buy the tickets via the web and then download your tickets to the app.
- The website does not offer youth 16-28 tickets. Where have you seen these? The correct website is www.bahn.com (or bahn.de, same thing).
- There are very few trains in Germany which require a reservation, though I would recommend them on longer routes. You can buy them through the app.
- Have you checked whether the GRP is the best option for you? Pre-booking saver fares is often cheaper, though there is nothing wrong with the GRP if you need flexibility on long-distance trains.
I am also surprised that you've come across youth 16-28 tickets. Have never seen such discounts.
The German Rail Pass and the Eurail Pass are available for people outside Europe (the Interrail Pass isn't) and also offers discounts for youth up to age 27. My daughter just got one for this summer. These ones do require indeed special reservations for certain trains that regular tickets would not require. The reservation process, however, is quite complex. I doubt that it works with the App, In fact, it is one of the reasons my daughter already regrets having purchased this pass ...
my bad...there are two portions to my trip and I need a Global Pass which allows youth tickets, so when I switched to looking for point to point, there weren't youth tickets so I was confused. Just not offered point to point. Darn. Should have told the kids they could travel when they were 13 not 16!
