DB 9 Euro ticket

Seems too good to be true. €9 for an entire month on local public transport for entire country.

I would think these DB trains are going to be packed to the gills. There have been other threads discussing this DB offer so you might want to do a search to get some more information especially from those who live and/or travel regularly in Germany.

Hi,

If you intend to use DB regional trains at all, I suggest spending the 9 Euro. No problem with me, since I always use regional trains as well as the ICE and IC. Hopping on the regional trains with is 9 Euro ticket is very convenient, if not merely handy.

The other thing you might want to check is the status of the city to which you are traveling, and whether it is suddenly crowded with travelers.

Over this past weekend, a couple of cities had huge influxes of people using the bahn tickets.

You can check out the news from one of them (Sylt) online.

Ya so the Sylt thing...that is something of a meme inside of Germany right now, and it is a bit hard to explain to those uninitiated in German social politics. I would not take it as indicative of the 9-Euro-Ticket consequences in general.

Also, this weekend was Pfingstwochenende--a long weekend holiday and also a common holiday week, so things were even more crowded than usual. I used the opportunity to travel by regional transport to a town about 4hr from my home and visit the new baby of a friend. I found fairly full trains, but nothing over-the-top. I did hear that the most popular tourist routes got quite crowded in some areas, so that is something one should perhaps plan for, at least on holiday weekends for Germans. But, anyway, I just wanted to contextualise the Sylt stories a bit.

Additionally, they are still controlling tickets on regional trains!
