Day trips from Berlin

Hi. I am looking for interesting day trips from Berlin relating to art, textiles, and culture.

I wondered if Lake Wansee if worth spending the day on - I noticed that there is a boat ride.

Thanks,
michele

Dresden is pretty far for a day-trip, and it has enough sights to justify a multi-day stay, but you can get there by train in 2 hours and it does have some fine museums.

As you travel around, keep an eye out for churches old and important enough to have treasuries. They often display church vestments.

The Kunstgewebermuseum in Berlin had some costumes on display in 2015. I believe they were part of the permanent collection, but I'm not certain. I've often encountered special exhibitions of textile-related objects just by chance. Definitely check with the tourist office when you arrive in Berlin to see whether it knows of something special going on.

We have several regular posters here who are extraordinarily knowledgeable about Germany. I hope they notice your post and can give you some good ideas.

You might also Google "Textile museum Germany" and see what pops up.

Wannsee is pretty, but for a day trip, I would head to Potsdam. Beautiful town, easy to get to, gorgeous palaces, and extensive park estate around it. Lots of little boutique type stores in the Dutch quarter and all in all, a charming town. Not sure about the textiles and art availability there.

Berlin is in the middle of nowhere, and historically the surrounding area was poor and rural, so there isn't that much to see in terms of art and culture. Very interesting however is Potsdam, on the outskirts of Berlin. Potsdam was the summer residence of the Prussian kings and offers not just Sanssouci, which already requires a full day, but three or four more royal parks and a partly preserved historic old towns with several very interesting quarters, among them a Durch, a Russian and a Bohemian one. To do Potsdam justice you need at least three days.
But since you mentioned a boat ride.... in this case visit the Spreewald instead and do a tour on a punted barge, or rent a canoe.

We are planning a day trip to Leipzig from Berlin. There are several museums and it has a fantastic music & culture scene - do a little googling on it.
