My wife and I will be in Munich for a week just before Christmas as a stop on our 2023 Eastern and Central Europe Christmas market tour. While there, assuming we will only do one day trip, which would you recommend -- Nuremberg or Innsbruck? We realize Innsbruck is about 45 minutes longer by train, so is Innsbruck worth the extra 90 minutes or should we opt for the more famous Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt?
Haven't been to both but Nuremberg was huge and very nice. We bought a numbers of things there that we had not seen elsewhere. You will not be disappointed by Nuremberg but cannot compare it to Innsbruck.
In my opinion Nürnberg Christkindlesmarkt is the better market. Christkind, Rauschgoldengel, Lebkuchen, Zwetschgenmännla, drei im Weckla etc. and can get very crowded. I haven't been to it since before Covid. I've been to the Innsbruck Christkindlmarkt/s the last two years as I was vacationing in the area. The advantage here is you are in the middle of the Alps, probably snow covered. Plenty of Röstkastanien there to snack on. Hungerburg too if you have the time.
Thanks for the info. I think we are currently thinking doing both. There are several things we would like to see beyond the Christmas markets, like the National Museum in Nuremberg and the Hungerberg and Nordettes in Innsbruck. So onward and upward!!!
